Sept. 11th 2012-The Hive Daily

“As the cleansing ocean closes over bin Laden’s carcass, may the earth lie lightly on the countless graves of those he sentenced without compunction to be burned alive or dismembered in the street.”
Christopher Hitchens, The Enemy

For 11 years we have lived and relieved the horror of 9/11. We will never forget the loss, shock and tragedy. I know people who lost friends and family. I almost lost my father. We lost 3,000 fellow citizens. We lost a measure of hope and childhood on that day. It turned us into a nation that rightly wanted revenge at all costs. And that is what we got. Since then thousands of brave men and women have been lost in death, hundreds of thousands of civilians, millions wounded, and our rights and freedoms are almost gone. It’s going to get worse.

Iraqi has had the troop numbers cut to be replaced with contractors. Change is illusion. America’s longest war in Afganistan still moves with rhetorical end in sight. After more than a decade you have to ask: Why? I know ‘why.” But after this long ‘why’ has changed. We all know that. We know something is wrong, but no one wants to land a finger on ‘what’ that is for fear of having it lopped off for daring to ask.

I honesty believe that the starting of this blog was a extension of 9/11 rage. Looking for sense, blame and a reason to explain the loss of life, the wanton violence and death on all sides that has mounted to the heavens with such a stink that I cannot stomach it anymore. To try and explain the fracture of the American Dream as I understood it. Attempting to look for and call out the perceived ‘next threat.’

I, like always, have fulfilled the urge to DO SOMETHING in response to my environment. Even as a young child I would act in response. I do not wait. I do not just take it. Even if it just makes me feel better, a pure moment of useless rebellion- I act. That can be and has been a mistake at times.

After 2 years of blog posting I realize that distributing valuable, honest information in the age of non stop information is hard. It is more than posting a link. There is so much disinformation and outright crap that even a person with the best of intensions can become a cell in the body of lies without realizing it. I suspected, and know I now.

I cannot follow up on everything or research it with the depth needed to bring you the full well rounded context and truth of a event. I found myself like Drudge and Huffington Post etc. having to find the most sensational headlines just to make you click. CHEAP. SAD. DEPRESSING. Its a race to the bottom that I cannot in good conscience run in. For this reason I now post with great hesitancy. Going forward I post carefully on this site …if ever again.

Don’t get me wrong: We did some really great things here. We broken a few stories that got picked up by big news outlets. Great contributions and tips from wonderful and interesting people. We had fun. We created moments that were exciting. I thank you all. But if I can’t do it right I will not do it badly. So things will evolved or die. There might be a second act, who knows? But it would have to be different. New rules.

This is a late night dispatch. I am tired- so forgive the possible mistypes and just take the message home. 9/11 was the begining of a string of staggering events over the last 11 years has shown us that life is fragile. No one is invincible. Things are not always what they appear. Time is fleeing for everyone. So in the shadow of all of that we must all be part of the quest for reality and truth in a world of myth and lies. In the words of Jimi Hendrix: “So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late..”

Times that will try our logic, principles, and souls lie ahead. Not succumb to the cheap tricks of politicians on either side of the isle. Do not relax to the familiar state of fear that leads us to misjudgment, overreaction, and a end fate that is worse than what we first waged the battle against. To navigate through these times with wisdom and thoughtful care takes hard work and energy. Make sure that you are tired in that effort.

Never forget who you are and what you stand for. Never forget.
